So we are building a Waldorf 48

Hello World!

We are building a Waldorf 48 in Lysterfield with the Hyde Park Facade.

How did we come to be building a Waldorf 48 by Porter Davis?

We had been looking to buy an established house for about a year with very few options coming onto the market in the area we wanted and we also missed out on a few. We had built before, many years ago, and decided to look around at displays and gain an understanding of pricing to see if it might fit our budget. Our display home journeys took us past the usual suspects including
several Waldorf's. On a weekend getaway we detoured past the Porter Davis Display Village in Williams Landing to view the Waldorf 48 they have on display. After building and living in a Victorian reproduction house we wanted something a bit more modern, not ultra modern, but still have a sense of charm and character. The Hyde Park Waldorf 48 at Williams Landing immediately grabbed our attention and we were sold on the idea of building and the 'Milan Theme'. Coincidently on the same weekend a block of land got listed for sale in Lysterfield. The sales consultant at Williams Landing was very helpful to assist us with a guide on pricing so we were able to put an offer on the land the following weekend. After the usual negotiation our offer was accepted and the following week we signed with Porter Davis to Build a Waldorf.

We are still in the pre-contract stage but here is our selections so far.

We are lucky enough to have extra width in our block so are extending the garage by 2 meters (not quite a 3rd car space but enough for a workshop space).

The colour selection will be very similar as displayed but using the cheaper options instead of the high priced premium options used on display. If our budget holds out we will keep the timber windows but we'll probably have to drop the roof tiles back to standard or traditional to keep the façade cost from blowing the entire budget.

On the inside we will be trying to keep the same 'Milan' colour theme and again use cheaper options instead of premium options on display particularly the tile flooring. There were 2 things that really grabbed our attention at Williams Landing Waldorf Display, The Hyde Park façade and the Kitchen.

As a lot of families do we tend to congregate around the kitchen when family or friends come over and we could immediately imagine the great time eating and talking in this lovely kitchen. And... that long breakfast bar seems to go forever. It would be perfect for our daily breakfast/meals too. The colour though is a little too green for our liking. It does go quite well in the display but we will be making selections without the green undertones.

Essentially we will be trying to build the Waldorf 48 as displayed at Williams Landing including the whole colour scheme/theme but using better priced options instead of the premium options displayed.

Anyway, that's our story so far. Thanks to all the guys and girls who have shared their Waldorf builds so far. I have gained a good understanding of what to expect and how much it might cost. I've also got some great ideas from a dwarf door in the pantry to access the under-stair space to adding in-built cabinets in the theatre for AV gear. I'll be posting information and photos of the whole build process as the work/life balance allows.

Until next time,
Cheers Dale & Maree
