Ubiquity Networks, Cameras and Access Points

I have chosen Ubiquiti Networks hardware for our Data Network, Access Points and IP Cameras. We have the whole house wired with cat6 cable to around 30 points all leading back to the upper linen cupboard.

Cornices & Plaster finishing

About a week ago the plaster was hung then this week the plaster finishing crew were back along with the cornice installer.

The plaster finishing took about 2 to 2.5 days. They installed the internal and external corners on walls, ceiling and bulkheads. Patched all of the joints and filled all of the joints and other areas that required finishing. Sanding of the filler was done a couple of days later.

Plaster - Wow that was quick!

Plaster was installed in our house over the last couple of days. I am absolutely amazed at how quickly the plaster was hung on the walls and ceiling. It was started on Thursday 20th April and by the end of the day they had hung almost all of the plaster. All that was left to do on the Friday was a few small sections beside doors and odd places that required finishing and then the cleaning up. They do make a fair amount of mess but that's expected with the work they are doing and they had

To pipe lag or not to pipe lag, that is the question

I didn't even know what pipe lagging was until our site supervisor suggested it to me. :-)

"acoustic pipe and duct lagging. Soundlag™ is a high-performance composite acoustic lagging product developed to reduce noise from pipes, valves, fan housings, and ductwork in commercial, industrial and domestic buildings."

Insulation & Sound "Proofing"

6 Star Energy Rating is noted throughout our paperwork but I hadn't really taken on board what that meant. I realise that the idea is the our house would be more energy efficient and better insulated against hot and cold. It was just part of what would end up as our new family home but not a big part of our decision making process. We had added sound insulation to the theatre but that was simply to reduce sound transmission out to other rooms or the neighbors not about temperature insulation.

Let there be noggins!

Noggins, Noggins and more Noggins.

When we were visiting established homes for sale prior to deciding to build I noticed something that was fairly consistent in a lot of houses. I would often see issues where towel rails, toilet rolls holders and other items had come loose due to insufficient grip where there is no noggin or stud to attach to. I am quite particular when it comes to this sort of thing and it appears Porter Davis are too.

Rough In - Electrical and Data.

Electrical:

The electrical rough in appeared to be fairly straight forward. A couple of days drilling holes and routing wires through the ceiling and wall spaces to all of the locations we had selected. We had added quite a few extras when it came to electrical with 74 downlights, numerous powerpoints added and several 2 way switches. We also made provision for lighting and electrical expansion into our outdoor space once that is constructed later on.

Roouggghhh In's!

There is a reason they call it rough in stage. :-) Our site and work had been quite tidy until the sparkies and plumbers arrived. They are only there for a few days but wow they can make a mess. No big deal though, A quick sweep and fixed.

We've had a bunch of rough in's done over the last few weeks or so.
