6 Star Energy Rating is noted throughout our paperwork but I hadn't really taken on board what that meant. I realise that the idea is the our house would be more energy efficient and better insulated against hot and cold. It was just part of what would end up as our new family home but not a big part of our decision making process. We had added sound insulation to the theatre but that was simply to reduce sound transmission out to other rooms or the neighbors not about temperature insulation.
I was happy to see that our house was getting full insulation to the walls and the ceiling and all of our external doors are sealed to stop draughts. The insulation crew were there for about a day and a half to install all of the insulation in the walls and ceiling. While they were there doing the installation I arrived to have a look around. After a brief discussion I had arranged a bit of extra sound insulation to be installed as direct work with me. As mentioned earlier we added sound insulation in out theatre area but I hadn't considered sound transfer for our rumpus room area into the bedrooms. The insulation guys were really good and installed Bradfords Soundscreen R2.5 Batts in the walls between bedrooms and rumpus/stair landing space. It didn't cost a great deal of money but should help with noise transmission between rooms.
The other areas we treated with sound 'proofing' was the theatre and upper linen cupboard. I have utilized our upper linen cupboard space (up high and out of the way) to put all of out technology hardware there. We will have Alarm, Network, Camera NVR, Small PC, network hardware and other bits and pieces in a data cabinet inside the linen cupboard. All of that will make somoe noise and with it backing onto our bedroom for a small investment hopefully it's stops the noise bothering us at night. All walls of the linen cupboard have got Bradfords Soundscreen R2.5 insulation installed. The theatre got Bradfords Soundscreen insulation too in the walls and ceiling. We also have Gyprock Soundcheck plaster all around the theatre.
Here you go, photos.
