Site Supervisor

For those of you that don't know, you get allocated a site supervisor that will look after your build once the slab has been competed. If everything goes to plan you shouldn't have to much communication with you Building Coordinator once the construction stage starts.
From my experience so far, it is crucial to have a good relationship with you SS. Our build hasn't been the easiest with several things going a bit off along the way. Whenever I have brought up an issue, concern or thought our SS has been very prompt in attending to it and respectful that it will be our family home once finished not just another build. We haven't used an independent building inspector and I am comfortable with that decision. I have walked through our house at each stage with our SS and gone through the various items that are checked by an independent inspection company. We went through the engineering drawings bit by bit and other specs to ensure our house meets building regulations, code and general high level finish. Any issue we picked up were fixed before moving on or during the next process.

As I assume occurs with most builds, we thought of a few things along the way that were missed, forgotten, not considered or removed for budget reasons. There were also a few items that we had misinterpreted so no fault of Porter Davis or our SS. Our SS has been very good in accommodating these things whenever possible and making or allowing small changes to occur. We were able to work with the trades to add or change a couple of things like feature tiles, painting and insulation we were after. These items weren't free but its much easier for us that our SS allowed this to occur during construction rather than after handover when we are busy moving and settling in.

Don't get me wrong here, our build hasn't been all smooth sailing and our SS does seem to forget occasionally (maybe it's not forget so much as they are very busy people). I have spent some time pulling my hair out and biting my nails but it most certainly does help alleviate the worries knowing a good Site Supervisor is on hand making sure we'll end up with a beautiful home at handover. I think the Site Supervisor could be the most crucial person you'll meet on your journey building a new house.

Nah, Sorry no photos on this post. :-)
