Tiles are a go!

I am constantly amazed how quickly things are done. The frame takes no time, plaster was only a day to hang and the floor and wall tiles will be about 3 days start to finish. The tilers arrived, cleaned up and set out for a few hours one afternoon. The next day they layed pretty much all of the full floor tile (no cut tiles). Then followed that up with a day filling all the cut tiles space and installed most of the wall tiles. Another day with a few hours of grouting and they are mostly done. They will be finished with about another half day completing our feature tiles kitchen splashback and the remaining grout.

I was lucky enough to arrange with the tiler to install some feature tiles in the shower niches and powder room splashback. We removed them from our contract with Porter Davis when we were trying to cut back on the total price. I saw them on special at National Tiles by coincidence and grabbed enough to cover the areas we wanted. There is an irony here though. It will probably end up costing about the same or maybe a little more than if we had have included it in the contract. Ohh well, you live and learn.

Something else that was interesting when they tiled. We have large 600mmx600mm polished floor tiles with small grout joints. When they are installed they use the spacers but they also use another spacer/aligner to ensure the tiles are not only spaced correctly but they are also aligned to the same height as any adjoining tiles. I know it's probably the norm but I was quite impressed to see this because I can be particular about that sort of thing. The result is a very nice consistent layout of our tiles.

Our tiles selection is:

Majestic Grey 600mm X 600mm Polished - Main Floors and Walls.
Colorado Grey 450mm X 450mm - Bathroom and Second Ensuite
Stainless & Glass Feature Tiles - Niches and PDR Room splashback
Simplicity Dark Grey 400mm X 400mm - External areas

    1. That's annoying about the delays. We started a couple of weeks after you and it feels like it's charging along. Hopefully yours is smooth sailing from now. I have a bunch of new posts coming up very soon. My posts are usually back dated to the date it occurred not the date I post it, so check back through posts every now and then.
